Helpful Information on Data
Projectors
You need to consider the following points to ensure that you choose the right Data projector
hire
The strength or brightness of a data projector is measured in ANSI Lumens (referred to as Lumens). This strength or
brightness is the most important consideration to hire or buy the right Data Projector
for your purpose.
Interactivity is the key to
successful PowerPoint presentations.
It is often most desirable to be able to present with
the lights on to enable you to interact with the audience better,
particularly during PowerPoint or slide presentations so that the audience can enjoy the
group participation and keep focus on you as the presenter. This makes for better
presentations but requires a stronger data projector to compete with the
ambient room light such as those in groups C to F above.
What screen format do you need? Projectors are available in
different formats depending on the type of material or media that you are projecting.
Projector Formats
- SVGA 800 x
600 Projectors - Can be used for computer programs and PowerPoint presentations,
however, SVGA projectors are old format and have given way to the more popular XGA format
which are more general purpose.
- XGA 1024 x 768
Projectors - Multi Purpose projector format but not suitable for projection in Wide
Screen.
- WXGA
Projectors Wide Screen 1280 x 800 Resolution suitable for movies or video to
be presented in widescreen format.
What light conditions will you
be projecting in? This is important! Some rooms can be made
darker than others so if the room can not be made dark then you must consider that you may need a
projector with more ANSI Lumens to compete with the ambient room light.
You also need match the
brightness of the projector and the size of your screen to your audience and room
size. For instance, a small group of 8-10 people, in a small room that is
not to bright can easily get by with a lower powered projector as in group A above and a small screen. Larger rooms
and/or audiences require data projectors with greater strength or brightness and use larger screen sizes to project
onto so that the image is able to be easily seen by the entire audience.
Another consideration is
portability of a projector. Lower lumen units are the most portable. The most popular of Modern
Data Projectors are in the 2000 to 5500 lumens range and are either DLP or LCD
Multimedia Projectors. As a general rule, although most projectors are portable, as you increase
projector strength you also increase the weight of the projector.
IMPORTANT
NOTE to hiring or buying a Data Projector: If
you hire a data projector or buy a data projector you should make sure that you
get the right data projector so that you will not ruin your presentation with by using equipment
that is unsuitable for your presentation. So when renting, hiring or buying a data
projector it is very important for you to consider all relevant factors and for you to choose the
right projector for the job and take into account the primary use of the projector whether it is video or static
data. If in doubt as to correct audio visual hire equipment that you need, one of our AV
Hire technical advisors will be delighted to assist you in making the right decision for your
event.
